The Whitsunday Skyway WILL offer a world-class opportunity to showcase the Whitsunday Islands and the Conway National Park. the project will promote the forest landscape, natural environment and cultural heritage values of the National Park.

Whitsunday Skyway is an all-weather 1km cable car ride ascending to a summit 430m above sea level in the Conway National Park, overlooking Airlie Beach. The Skyway will offer a unique 360° vantage point of the Whitsunday Islands, mainland Whitsundays, and the Coral Sea, known as “The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.”

Whitsunday Skyway will offer a range of experiences, stunning but currently inaccessible views over the Whitsundays, entertainment, educational activities, food and beverage services, cultural heritage activities & education, downhill luge, mountain bike trails, junior ropes courses, access to existing bushwalking trails, and a souvenir and booking centre to promote other regional tourism activities.

  • Improved visitor access to the Conway National Park

  • New nature-tourism and adventure-based activities to the region such as mountain bike trails of varying levels of difficulty, bush walking tracks and interpretative signage and lookouts, guided tours, adventure park including a juniors tree-top rope courses, luge cart tracks

  • Educational programs and cinematic experiences to learn about the regions local cultural heritage, enjoy panoramic views of the Great Barrier Reef and Islands and the Conway National park, as well as promoting the environmental qualities and values of the Conway National Park

  • Reinvestments in the Conway National Park through programs to conserve and enhance the native habitat

  • The local and regional economies will benefit from increased spending and increased employment.  An economic impact assessment undertaken estimates that the project will potentially generate more than $56M in annual economic value across all service sectors

  • Regional stakeholders, including the Whitsunday Regional Council, strongly believe that Whitsunday Skyway will be a catalyst for significant new interest and growth in both domestic and international tourist visitation to Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday mainland by appealing to the existing and emerging market sectors for tourism

  • Whitsunday Skyway will expand on, and complement current Whitsunday Tourism operations, offering greatly needed land-based infrastructure & activities for current & future tourism groups, regional residents, school groups, coach tours and other market segments

  • Recognise the rights and spiritual beliefs of the Indigenous people and work in partnership with them to create empowerment, interpretation, story-telling and operation of the site and provide opportunities for economic development opportunities through promotion of art and culture
